As we muddle through the grey days of February and the endless snow it feels as though winter will never end. Lately it feels as though I am stuck in a rut doing the same thing every day and it feels quite gloomy and difficult.
During times when things really seem stagnant it is helpful to push yourself to do a bit more. Go on that walk outdoors even, if it is a short one. Take that hike through the forest and just be with nature. Surprisingly, when you make that tiny effort things become a bit lighter even if just for a moment. It is easy to stop doing things when it is miserable and grey out and become the ultimate couch potato. There certainly is a time to rest and recharge. But, there is also a time to explore that new path, try that new route and discover something new.
Try some slow cooking techniques and really take the time to prep your meal and to be present in the moment while doing so. Enjoy the fresh flavours and slowly savour every bite. Eating slowly allows you to truly enjoy your meal. Find a way to make your meal prep during the week easier and fun. Interject new flavours and recipes when you can. Spend time in the market looking for the freshest vegetable you can find. Often this is a real challenge in the winter months. But be flexible with your meal planning. Have a couple of options in your mind in case you can't find some of the ingredients you need. Take time to nurture yourself with whole foods and this will help you as you navigate the daily challenges.
